Zayed National Museum introduces immersive books for young readers in UAE
Interactive features bring history, wildlife and culture closer to children
ABU DHABI – Zayed National Museum has introduced four new children’s books aimed at helping young readers engage with key elements of the United Arab Emirates’ identity.
Published in both English and Arabic, the titles draw on the nation’s traditions, landscapes and heritage to create an immersive and educational experience.
Designed with interactive features such as touch-and-feel elements, pop-up illustrations and animation-based activities, the books encourage children to explore themes ranging from desert life to marine ecosystems and native wildlife. The initiative reflects the museum’s broader effort to extend learning beyond its galleries and into homes and classrooms.
New books
Among the new releases is Qudwati – Under the Desert Sky, which introduces children to the desert landscapes that shaped the values of the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Through storytelling and vivid illustrations, the book presents the desert as a setting that fosters resilience, curiosity and respect for nature. The Arabic edition was developed in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre.
Kitabu – Step Inside, Listen Closely offers a pop-up journey through the museum’s architecture and collections, allowing young readers to discover historical objects and stories in an engaging, visual format.
Meanwhile, What’s this? – Animals of the United Arab Emirates is tailored for early learners, using tactile elements to introduce native species and encourage exploration.
Our Life by the Sea, created in partnership with Éditions Animées, focuses on the significance of the sea in Emirati culture. The colouring book integrates digital technology through the BlinkBook app, enabling children to animate their completed drawings.
Wider programme
The four titles form part of the museum’s expanding publications programme, which also includes Magan Rediscovered: The Building of a Bronze Age Boat That Sailed the Arabian Gulf and Zayed National Museum’s Collection Highlights. These works highlight ongoing efforts to support research, knowledge-sharing and accessible educational resources.
The newly launched books are available at Al Nagwa Boutique at the museum, offering families an interactive way to explore the UAE’s heritage and environment through storytelling and creative engagement.
